Wall Fountains

There are many water fountains on the market that are to be used on walls. They don't have to be just outside, they can be brought in as well. This application is really very stunning if used in an entry way. There is something about the sound of water that is running or cascading over the edge of a bowl. The melodious tone is mesmerizing.

Whimsical Statues

The corn is almost ready to be harvested. I'm watching the crows. They fly over and over and call to each other. Almost like they are talking about the abundance of food that they have found. And perhaps they are (talking to each other). There antics are fun to watch. They fly, dive, at times they just to be gliding. I know they can be kind of a nuisance bird but I'm sure they have a purpose. I found this statue to be fun hidden in the garden for the unsuspecting visitor to find.

Continuing to Winterize

We have been winterizing. It's probably a good thing. I thought we were doing good time wise, but they're already calling for snow next week!! Our summer was cooler, and that was nice, I'll have to admit, but October has been really cool and wet. This is very unusual for our area. It is more like November weather. This is not good news for the farmers. Our crops aren't ready for this and it will be difficult to harvest with the wet ground. (makes it difficult to get the machinery in and out of the fields).

We brought in our house plants (during the summer months I take them outside). I have a few more plants that need to be repotted. They really grew over the summer with the fresh air and sun. Remember to clean your "used" pots with a mild solution of bleach, this will kill any bacteria that might be in the soil and your pot will be good to go in the spring.

Winterizing Your Yard and Garden

I have begun to winterize my yard and garden. Small statues and figurines I bring inside. You don't really have to, it just makes them less apt to be damaged with the freezing and thawing. I also have several tropical plants around the patio and pond. We live in zone 5, so they cannot tolerate that much cold. While some of the plants actually come in the house, others go to the basement. Remember to spray them first with an insectisidal soap to remove any bugs and spiders. Large potted plants might need to be inspected for snakes and mice, etc.

Garden Decor

The corn is getting ready to be harvested, so I think I'll cut down some stalks to make my annual "Corn Shock". Then I'll find some pumpkins and gourds to place at the base. This is a tradition at our house. It signifies the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Our crops are being harvested, for which we are grateful and we begin preparing for Thanksgiving.

One Project at a Time

Adding beauty to your garden decor can be done several ways, and it will be probably be different for each of us. You can add plants, trees, objects, water features. Beauty is indeed "in the eye of the beholder". (and the pocketbook)!
Look down the road and see the "big picture" maybe you can transform your yard/garden slowly, especially if you have limited resources. Add a few flowering plants or bushes this year and you'll be able to see the beauty begin, with birds, butterflies and blooms, then next year maybe you can add a statue or water feature. This can be repeated year after year until you have created your "masterpiece", one project at a time.

Garden Statues

This spring while working in my back yard and seeing all the tulips and daffodils coming up, I’ve decided to change my decor in one area. We are fortunate to have a good sized yard in the back, so we can actually make it look like we are entering another room as we move about the garden.I think I would like to add a wind mill and dutch kids do you think it will look okay? Maybe I'll even add a park bench to sit and view the surrounding area.

Sunday, April 26, 2009

You can also clean any debris from your pond and fountain features. Turn your pumps and filters on. So let's get started

Nautical Theme

As you get close to the Lake or Beach you see that many homes and/businesses use a nautical theme to decorate their spaces or yards. This is an easy theme as boats, ropes, statues of seamen are pretty accesible on the market.
You can use this same idea in your backyard on a smaller scale. Place sand near the edge of your pond and incorporate the above mentioned items and add some sea shells to make it more realistic

Wall Gardens

When you are designing your backyard gardens, think out of the box. One creative way to display plants is to build a wall of stones. Your wall doesn't have to encompass the whole yard, it can be just a small area.
Leave openings so you can plant some flowering plants.

Statues For Your Garden

With the use of statues you can add a flair of whimsy or have a more formal garden. It of course depends on the statues that you choose.
Today you can get statues made of polyresin with are very light weight or pick the tradional concrete , brass or copper structures. I've even seen wood structures, though I'm not sure how they hold up. Anyone that has experience with this, comments are appreciated.

Think about what you would like your garden to look like – what accessories you would like to see, and what plants and trees you’d like to add. Here are some of the theme ideas that you can incorporate with your home and garden décor: butterfly, temple, birds, Japanese, winter, animals, children, rustic and jungle, to name a few. After you choose your theme, you can now make a list of products that are wonderful items to compliment your home garden. Some of these items can be flowers and flowerpots, planter pots, birdhouses, fountains, wind chimes, garden shelves, incense, garden angels, plant stands, flower vases, and statues. Decorating your home and garden can be very challenging and you have to use your aesthetic ability to come up with a truly pleasing home garden. But before you make any purchase, be sure that your home and garden décor items will be good together so that you will not waste money, time, and effort.
