We had a long cold winter and now after a hard day of work, it is so nice sitting on the patio listening and seeing the sites of spring as I unwind. The birds are chirping and the daffodils and hyacinths are in bloom. Nearby the sounds of a garden fountain as the water splashes down. In the distance the melodious sounds of a windchime in the cool evening breeze. Wouldn't you like to join me?

It's Spring

It's spring and time to start preparing your front and backyards for this season. You can begin by cleaning the dead foliage from your garden plants if you didn't do this last fall (maybe the weather turned too cold too soon or that first snowfall came to soon). Anyway once this is done you can bring the small statues out that you took in to protect them from the harsh weather.
You can also clean any debris from your pond and fountain features. Turn your pumps and filters on. So let's get started

Decorating Your Space

Money is a real issue these days to many of us, with the loss of jobs, pay cuts etc. Don't let decorating your space get you down. There are so many ways to decorate without spending alot of money. Think outside the proverbial box...

Do you have a little paint left over from another project? This is a good way to brighten an area such as a play space, patio, etc. Or maybe some objects that were used to decorate an idea in your home that are now being stored?

Hanging Birdhouses

There are many ways in which to add decor to your backyard. Hanging birdhouses not only help give our feathered friends a place to rest but actually add interest to your backyard. You too will benefit from this. Not only will you begin recongnizing a particular bird, but you will also recognize its call, song and habits. You may even catch a glimpse of its nesting habits...see eggs and be able to watch them hatch.

Nautical Theme

As you get close to the Lake or Beach you see that many homes and/businesses use a nautical theme to decorate their spaces or yards. This is an easy theme as boats, ropes, statues of seamen are pretty accesible on the market.
You can use this same idea in your backyard on a smaller scale. Place sand near the edge of your pond and incorporate the above mentioned items and add some sea shells to make it more realistic

Cherished Cherub

Well the warmer weather is just around the corner!! We have had some nice days then the cold returns again, but, we know it will not last. Now is the time to get things in order. I hope you have already cleaned and bleached your planters and pots.
It's still a little early to put those plants outside, but you could put the smaller statues that you brought in outside. And even some of the furniture. Once the weather warms and you're working in the yard, you'll want a place to sit down.

A Little Bit of Whimsy

I love surprises don't you? How much fun it is to be walking around someone elses garden a spot a statue or object half hidden among the flowers, plants or bushes? It's not for the formal garden, but just fine for your backyard pleasures. It's a little of whimsy, and a great way for your children to help decorate your backyard.
