Winterizing Your Yard and Garden

I have begun to winterize my yard and garden. Small statues and figurines I bring inside. You don't really have to, it just makes them less apt to be damaged with the freezing and thawing. I also have several tropical plants around the patio and pond. We live in zone 5, so they cannot tolerate that much cold. While some of the plants actually come in the house, others go to the basement. Remember to spray them first with an insectisidal soap to remove any bugs and spiders. Large potted plants might need to be inspected for snakes and mice, etc.

Garden Decor

The corn is getting ready to be harvested, so I think I'll cut down some stalks to make my annual "Corn Shock". Then I'll find some pumpkins and gourds to place at the base. This is a tradition at our house. It signifies the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Our crops are being harvested, for which we are grateful and we begin preparing for Thanksgiving.

Decorating your Garden

Now is a great time to decorate your garden. There are so many themes one might choose from. I like to of harvesting and the upcoming holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving. I will probably include some pumpkins and gourds and perhaps an ear or two of corn.

What will you choose?

Summer is Over

Summer is officially over, and winter will soon be here. Now is a good time to begin tidying up. You may want to bring in your smaller garden statues and figurines so they don't crack or peel as the weather changes.
