Statuary is used in planning more formal gardens. You know how there is always a statue of Venus in a stately garden hedge maze? Statues just seem more stately, upper crust if you will.
I still tend to lean on the light side, like the Little Boy fishing by the pond or the Little Boy and Girl on the Park Bench.
